You’ve spent all summer in your garden. Hours and hours cutting the grass, cutting the hedges, pruning your plants, the list is endless and it doesn’t stop in the winter either. Come spring, you’ll be thanking yourself you’ve maintained the garden as you’ll be reaping the rewards.
The team at Cutting Edge Machinery have put together a list of jobs for the garden over the winter months.
Mulch the Grass
If you’ve purchased a Robotic Mower you would have been mulching the grass with your cuttings, but have your considered mulching your plants & grass with leaves that have fallen. The mulch them turns into a plant organic matter which you grass and plants will love.
Remove Debris from your Lawn
Keeping leaves off your lawn is an important task over the winter. Fallen leaves can block light and prevent moisture from getting to your grass. It’s good to do this around once or twice a week in late autumn when leaves are falling the most and using them is mulch, as above, is ideal.
Mow the Lawn
Don’t be afraid, on milder days, to cut your lawns – as long as the grass isn’t wet or frosty. But remember to set the cutting high to the highest setting so as not to churn up the grass.
Snow
If it does snow this year, it’s a good idea to knock off the snow off your plants so as not to damage them. Snow on the lawn can actually act as an insulator, allowing roots to continue growing and earthworms to work the soil.
Look after your equipment
If you have a battery-powered lawn mower it’s best to remove the battery and store it in a cool, dry place ideally away from gas canisters and water heaters. It’s also good practice to remove all debris such as mud, leaves and grass from your chainsaws, hedge trimmers, strimmers and brush cutters and lawnmowers. Then be sure you put all your equipment away in a dry place such either a shed or garage for the winter months.
Servicing
In the autumn and winter months, it is an ideal time to service and maintain your equipment as it’s not being used so much. Cutting Edge Machinery’s engineers are industry trained and are able to service, fault find and repair all types of grass and garden machinery. i.e. strimmers/brush cutters, chain saws, hedge cutters, leaf blowers & vacs, chippers, rotary cultivators, scarifiers, snow blowers. Plus, all types of lawnmowers and garden tractors.
